  4.     How did Midori get to Carnegie Hall? By fiddling around -- in
  5. fact, by practicing up to seven hours a day. On Oct. 25 the
  6. diminutive violinist from Osaka will celebrate her 18th birthday
  7. by making her debut at Carnegie. "It's going to be exciting," she
  8. says, "because I've spent so much time there, but on the other side
  9. of the stage." Now a Manhattan high school senior, Midori (who has
  10. dropped her surname Goto) browses in record shops like any other
  11. teenager. One new album soon to be in the racks: her dazzling
  12. version of the finger-fracturing Paganini caprices.
